Ice in Paradise

From the President of the GSBISA

Dear Friend,

Ice in Paradise! Yes, it is possible for the Santa Barbara/Goleta community to have their very own ice skating facility. I grew up in Los Angeles where ice rinks were and still are abundant. What fun it is for kids and adults alike to strap on the blades! There will be learn to skate programs, public skating, figure skating, ice dancing, competitive hockey and more. We too can have that here!
Besides being fun, ice skating also helps kids learn something new while teaching discipline and good sportsmanship in a safe, supervised setting that is open year-round. This is especially important for children and teens in the Santa Barbara area, where there are limited affordable recreational facilities with supervision. It also provides a great way for families and friends to participate together, day or nighttime, in any kind of weather.
We now have plans to have a full size sheet of ice and a smaller junior rink. This will enable large groups to use the main ice for hockey games or public sessions and still be able to use the junior rink for skating school or special events, like birthday parties. My daughter can hardly wait to invite her friends to an ice skating birthday party and is constantly asking when it will be built.
Everywhere I go, people ask what the rink status is. The good news is that we are getting closer to making this dream a reality but not without your help. We can give this gift to our current generation and the future generations to come.
I have worked towards this goal for the past few years with the Board of GSBISA and feel great about the progress we’ve made. We are finally narrowing the choice for the outside architectural group to start working on final design and building plans.

So, please, if you can, make a tax-deductible donation and help get this rink off the ground!
With your help, we CAN do it!
